MEPs to discuss Council’s cuts to EU’s 2020 budget
On 2 September 2019, the general rapporteur of the EU’s 2020 budget in the European Parliament, Ms Monika Hohlmeier, will present to the Committee on Budgets a Working Document on the Council’s position on the budget of year 2020, which was approved by EU ambassadors on 10 July. Member States propose a reduction of EU financing proposed in European Commission’s Draft Budget by 1,5B euros, focusing mainly on EU funds and programmes in the field of research and innovation.
The European Parliament will now respond to the Council’s position in late July with the adoption of budgetary amendments. Council’s position will serve as a mandate for the Finnish Presidency in negotiating and reaching agreement on EU’s 2020 budget with the EP.
