EC adopted its first Strategic Foresight Report

On 9 September 2020, the European Commission (EC) adopted its first Strategic Foresight Report, aiming at identifying emerging challenges and opportunities to better steer the EU’s strategic choices. The 2020 Strategic Foresight Report This 2020 Report presents the rationale for using foresight in EU policy-making, and introduces a comprehensive concept of EU resilience. According to the EC, in light of the ambitious Recovery Plan for Europe, the report considers EU resilience in four dimensions: social and economic, geopolitical, green, and digital. For each dimension, the capacities, vulnerabilities and opportunities have been identified and need to be addressed in the medium- to long-term. This 2020 Report also proposes prototype resilience dashboards to kick‑start discussions among Member States and other key stakeholders on how best to monitor resilience.   The 2020 Strategic Foresight Report will feed into EC President von der Leyen’s annual State of the Union, EC Work Programmes and the forthcoming inter-institutional negotiations on our first-ever multiannual programming.   More information
